Blog Fiction: Fictitious Posts and Imaginary Stories

23 February 2017 - Anticlockwise

BLOG FICTION

Just in case the Snoops are eavesdropping on this conversation, I want to make it clear from the outset that everything I tell you is a pack of lies. There’s nothing real in any of it. None of what follows actually happened. It’s what I call Solitanu’s Blog Fiction, a collection of fictitious posts and imaginary stories. So it’s no use confusing blog fiction with reality.

There might be some unintended or chance similarity with people or events that you’ve seen or heard about, but that’s all it is – a vague resemblance. There are too many surveillance cameras in my world for me to be dabbling in reality. You won’t catch me risking my neck for a few printed words. Life is far too dangerous in Globopolis for stunts like that. No one would last five minutes speaking their mind where I come from. So, for the record, Zeb Solitanu’s Blog Fiction is entirely fictitious.

I’m sure that you understand what I’m saying. You know what it’s like when you try to remember something, especially when you weren’t really paying attention at the time. Your imagination starts deceiving you. One moment, you’re convinced that you recall something vividly; the next moment ‘abracadbra’, you’re not so sure. Yes, `abracadbra’, just like a conjuring trick. `Now you see it, now you don’t’. Everything becomes hazy, ambiguous, uncertain.

That’s what it’s like inside my world. You think that you recognise something as clear as day, only to discover later that your mind is riddled with doubt. Your thoughts become confused and there’s no going back to comfortable certainties. Names, characters, places, events and incidents might possibly have been real, but in the end turn out to be no more than figments of your imagination. Any resemblance to actual people, whether they’re alive or dead, that you think you might see in what I’m writing is purely coincidental precisely because every last syllable is pure Solitanu fiction.

I feel better getting that off my chest. The truth of the matter is that I’m much more comfortable operating inside fiction. I read a lot ofBlog Fiction Solitanu's Blog it, especially adventure stories about outer space. I’ve always been fascinated by tales of the extraordinary – the more outlandish they are, the more they interest me. They help me escape from the reality of my daily life which I’ll tell you about later when I’ve got more used to the idea of talking about myself, fictionally speaking of course.

The bottom line is that I have this crazy idea that I can escape from my own oppressive world by inventing stories about it. It’s my own peculiar kind of personal therapy you see. Writing this blog helps me get by from day to day. But don’t go taking it too seriously, and especially don’t try reading anything exceptional into what I have to say. The world’s too full of far-fetched interpretations and conspiracy theories for my liking. Over-analysing things doesn’t get you very far in the long run. Solitanu’s Blog is as fictitious as the soaps you watch on TV each night. The only difference is that most of the time I’m using words not pictures.
